Currency, that's not true at all. Please don't give misinformation and confuse users. While the individual that was working on our iPhone app left for Apple several months ago, we continue to use other talent until a replacement is found. We definitely plan on continuing our development on the iPhone platform.

Sadly, the owners and programmers of this forum and iPhone app have all but abandonded the iPhone app. All they're doing now is making stability changes to the app. Their resentment to iOS is rather obvious.

The improvements to the keyboard, including the tactile feedback, make it easier to operate without looking at the phone. They added voice recognition, which works great but it only lets you speak one price at a time. It would be nice if it would advance to the next price field after each entry.

Probably the best way of reporting prices is to use a voice recording app and to enter the prices once you are at a computer. Technically it may still be considered distracted driving but you are far less likely to be distracted or look distracted by hitting the record and stop buttons.

Thanks plastic. That's exactly right. Both do some things better than the other. The worst part or the most frustrating thing is that the two Gasbuddy apps should have the same features and the admin mentioned a long long time ago that they are working on adding the missing features to the iPhone app. We're still waiting.
In addition, the police in my area have been cracking down on drivers who are distracted. There is a ban on texting and driving, even fiddling with a GPS while driving too. Basically, anything that can be a distraction. This further makes it very difficult to record the information and then go online when you have a chance, hoping you remember the price. I fear that eventually, it will be difficult to get updated gas prices on gasbuddy unless you actually drive in and fill-up, then go online on your phone to post the price. Posting gas prices isn't as simplistic as some people think it is.

Heh, not "fandroid"as you say, just the facts. You're the one who made the claim that Apple OS is better. It's better in some things and Android is better in other things. Versatility and power are better with the Android OS. I didn't say it was better overall.
It's great that you made some suggestions to improve the iPhone app. I hope they consider your suggestions. It must be terrible to have a smart phone and be forced to use the mobile site. I know I'd be unhappy if I had to use the mobile site. No wonder you don't post prices regularly.

Why are you so critical about details when you clearly are confused about which OS is better. Sorry but the Apple platform is not as versatile or powerful as the Android platform. You might be confusing your personal choice of phones with actual platform function.

Lol at the unnecessary Android insult right there with your supposed "superior" Apple phones. I figured out why they aren't adding it... they want to see how many hilarious insults the Apple fanboys can throw out.

I've been using the app since I joined in August. After the update, it was really screwy and SLOW. However my 3Gs was running weird and slow for several other apps also. (It was over 3 years old) I just got my new 4S up and running yesterday. All my games, apps - yes even Gas Buddy - are SO much faster and actually behave and don't jump back to home screen etc. Today was my first day to use it on this site, but it was a marked improvement!

I hate the new iPhone update (2 weeks ago) with the ads. Everything has slowed down & the app freezes up frequently now.

@yavs. I had the same trouble with the map view snapping back out to the city-view after zooming in. It was corrected after I went to <Settings> and changed the value for <Sort By> back to 'Default'.

I don't mind the crosshairs screen as much as some (though it does seem like a step backwards), but is anyone else having trouble zooming in on the map-view since updating? My map view starts way too far out to be useful, and zooming in seems buggy or impossible. It doesn't hold a close-up (local area) view. It keeps bouncing back out to city-view. Useless! I used to love the map and only used list-view occasionally. Please fix the map!

It's really only good for checking prices near you and for posting prices near you. Why aren't there lists? There should also be a link in the app to take you to the real website so you can post in the forums, etc.

I think the Android app is much better than the iPhone app. I wish the iPhone app had a favorite stations like the Android one does.

Gentle feedback to a very good application overall.
I upgraded to version 1.10 and the new Apple operating system for my iPhone 3GS.
I see the comments field is back (THANK YOU) but I really do NOT like that the app keeps going to the crosshairs home page. It adds an extra step to get back to the listings page where you can tap on the nearby stations to update prices. Going to the crosshairs home page is an unnecessary (and somewhat annoying) step.
I don't know why GB retrogressed to a clunkier step. Why are you making users execute an extra step when they want the "Launch Near Me" automatically? Go back to the way it was in 1.08, please.
Please remove the ads between the regular and mid-grade prices. I don't mind the banner ads (except for the fact it is BofA!) but it's a bit overboard to place them in the middle of the data.
I would encourage GB to give users the options of an advertisement-free paid version of the app. I, for one, would pay a small amount to avoid the ads.
Overall, though, the GB is a good one and one I use every day to post prices in my geographic area.

I upgraded to IOS 5 on Friday and have not noticed any problems at all with the app using the version prior to the version 1.10 which I haven't upgraded to yet.
Launch near me seems to be working fine for me using IOS 5 and Gas Buddy app version 1.09.

Works great for me. As has been suggested, a fuel log would be a welcome addition. It's free, so I advise anyone with an iPhone or iPod touch to try for themselves.

Thanks for mentioning the new version TB. Do you guys post a changelog anywhere so we can see the specific fixes and improvements in each version?
Oh, btw, the Settings - Help - What's New hasn't been updated since v1.07...

I agree 100% with TreasuryGuy on all accounts. I understand the cost of bandwidth and having a web site and the cost to create an app.

I have been experiencing some of the same issues as others with version 1.09.
The "Launch Near Me" doesn't launch near me, it just goes to the home page of the iPhone app. So the new app adds an extra step. Please fix the Launch Near Me capability.
There are many cash/credit stations near me. I post the cash discount in the comments and now the comments are no longer available in version 1.09. Please add back the comment field.
I am not having network issues with the new version. I have an iPhone 3GS.
I don't like the ads either but I would be willing to pay for a non-ad version. I would like the ads removed from the price input page (where they appear between regular and mid-grade price inputs). That ad placement is especially egregious.
Version 1.09 does seem like a retrograde from the previous version. If users have not upgraded to this version and the prior version works for you, then I would recommend NOT upgrading to version 1.09.

Ads were added because the app is free. Developing an app is not only time intensive, but cost intensive.
The cost of building an app
Just remember, there's no such thing as a free lunch... ads were necessary. I don't like them, just like everyone, but at least it keeps the app free.

RickyBee, how do you think this huge website is paid for? Ever heard of bandwidth? Every time you go to the gasbuddy website of your choice, information has to travel... well that costs money. It's not like we pay a membership fee to use this service.

I found that when I launch the iPhone app with "launch with near me" ON. The app almost always sits at loading, then network connection error. If I go to "home" and tap "Find gas near me" it sometimes loads the stations. I've tried closing and reopening that app several times but that is still hit or miss.
I have since left the option "launch with near me" OFF and have seen a slight improvement in loading the stations. It seems to be worse when I haven't used the app for a few hours. I did not have loading issues prior to the v1.09 update.

Station notes/comments no longer show up under the prices in the app. I use the box to add comments for Ultra93 at Sunoco's, and for the cash vs credit price difference. This information used to show up below the prices in the app and now it does not with the latest update. I also do not like the advertisements that have been added to the app. If I had known these things before I updated, I would not have bothered getting the update. What a shame.

Oh yea I guess you can use the mobile site as opposed to the app.
I still get the network errors once in a while. I attribute the network errors to a busy network somewhere. I have not checked for any updates since last Monday. If it's there next time I do check for updated apps, I will download it.

The iPhone app gives us people on the go the chance to post fresh prices as we go into or past a station and may not be at the computer for hour(s) later.

Why even worry about the iPhone App? The web page for the local GB site gives me all the utility I need or want. I have my favorites in addition to hitting refresh which gives me the closest stations to my location. I have stored searches if I want info on a specific brand. Posting is very quick if the price hasn't changed, touch four times and touch update. If it has only changed by a couple cents, then touch, backspace and enter new digit, repeat and update. It runs quick on the 3GS too! Apps mostly seem like needless overhead.
