Here's my take: If the vehicles were so "inefficient" to begin with, the owner of the vehicle would have enough incentive to make a new purchase on their own!! Without forcing the cost of THEIR new investment off on ME (US) the taxpayer(s), who get nothing out of the deal. Obviously, if it were so vastly inefficient, it would behoove the owner to act on his/her own. Are they next going to make the taxpayers subsidize everyone's purchase of a new washing machine, because the current owners of the old style "less efficient" (i.e., not HE - high efficiency) washers don't feel the need to dole out the extra bucks to pay for one? Good grief, .. watch my mouth!! They might be getting ideas......

The money invested by the Feds will never offset the oil saved. I am also looking forward if anyone will follow up on how many of these new cars will be re-possessed in the up coming months when the buyers figure out they can't afford the payments. Sure the program was a temporary shot in the arm for the automakers, but look how badly sales fell the month after the program ended.

In effect, it had so many, many loopholes that people cheated (legally) and made a mockery of the program. Now junk yards have excellent nearly new cars that they cannot sell (under penality of fines and jail time) but are forced to part out. Stupid, stupid, stupid idea. When will Washington learn to stay out of these "do good" projects that are so poorly thought through!??!

Less than of 1% for 3 billion dollars equates to about a half a days oil production. This along with destroying good engines and transmissions that some people who could not afford the "new" car may need and will now cost them $2000 instead of $500 sounds like a good deal to me if you don't do the math that makes it not workable.

They go to the metal recyclers and after they are shredded up, on a ship they go to China. None of the money from the old car is kept in the US. Who are the real people benefitting from this program?

Had one break down and almost caused an accident ! although there is a yearly inspection, they're more likely to cost us all money in repairs,, i know i was almost a victim! Highways are no joke,,even driving less then 10 miles and hour we can get serioulsy hurt CARS ARE DANGEROUS..I see children is some of these clunkers and I am concerned for them to. Geez... air bags and new safety features aren't in these cars ! GET THEM OFF THE ROAD., WE NO LONGER LIVE IN THE DARK AGES...its not right for the have's and the have nots' our government needs to really wake up and see they have opened pandoras box... in an ironic way watch this America, soon enough some ones gonna cash in on this in a way thats gonna blow the presidents mind...!

They're the ones with the gas hogs, so right after foaming at the mouth about what a nazi obama is, they go buy cars under the deal. Brag about what a great deal they got then start right in with how Obama is killing the American deam....Doesn't anybody remember who and how we got into this mess....BUSH/Cheney My left wing friends tried to buy, but they already had cars that got OK mileage, really could have used a break 180K plus miles on their cars....so no deal for them. Cheers!!!

Last I heard on Friday something like 14 dealers had gotten checks out of the thousands selling in the CARS program.
