yeah, just met a new riding buddy who moved to the area recently, and he has a yellow-and-black 900 Monster with the yellow trellis frame. It's a 1997 but done so tastefully that it just looks so appealing! It helps that he worked as a manager at a Ducati dealer for years so he knows what to do to make that bike look so nice!

yeah, they had a ducati demo day locally here recently, and I got to ride the SR4s tricolore, plus the SportClassic and the Hypermotard. I really liked the SR4s. Such power and handling!!

Yes! Today, Ducati's new bikes are released to the world!
A new updated Monster, the 696. A new Superbike, the 848. Another new Superbike, the 1098R.

I currently have an 06 Ninja 250 for the mileage and an 07 H-D Softail Deluxe for carrying passengers (and posing!) and I'm looking for something "interesting" for the twisties and some track days

That's a great tip. Ditto on the rear ended paranoia. Especially important on the bike, but even in the cage I am always aware of it.
What kind of bike do you ride?

i just learned a new trick for seeing behind you, it only works at stop lights, but that is to stop at a slight angle in your lane, this allows you to see behind you in at least one mirror.
this is useful for me since i always keep a sharp lookout when i'm the last one in line at a stop light. i don't relax (or shift into neutral) until there is a car stopped behind me.
i'm too paranoid about getting rear ended at a light...

The 999's mirrors are just tucked in too far to give an unobstructed view of the goings-on behind you. After having lived with 'em for five years now, it's second nature to lift my elbows to see behind. On the positive side, it makes the bike much more narrow and smaller looking. In comparison, my old CBR600F's mirrors look like antenna ears sticking way out in the breeze.
I haven't sat on the new 1098 yet, curious as to the mirrors on it and their view to the rear.

i think the motard mirror got faulted for being too buzzy more than for bad position. are your 999 mirrors buzzy too? or just bad position?

Oh yeah, I've learned things about my elbows that I never knew before I got the 999! But as with most of my acquistions, I've learned to live with the flaws. Now I simply raise the elbows to see behind me.

yep, a recent episode of Motorweek TV had a segment on the new Hypermotard. Looks great, although they did say the mirrors are next to useless (which I think is a common issue throughout the Duc models)

Got an '03 999. Yes, I too wondered what anyone would want a Ducati for with all the great asian bikes out there. So after 33 years on those same asian bikes, I purchased a Ducati. Fantastic bike, no cookie-cutter racer clones here. If you want something every nineteen year old has, that's great, go for it! However, if something extraordinary is in your future, check out the Ducatis. Test rode one of the SR4S back a while and really enjoyed it. Would love to get something a little more upright and luggage friendly for longer trips, perhaps a Multistrada (looks perhaps only a mother could love). Demo rode a Multistrada at Texas Motorsport Ranch a year or so ago, felt great. Can't wait to test a Hypermotard, just stopped by AMS to take a gander, even cooler than all the pics in the magazines!

Unfortunately, the powers that be decided to give everone a motorcycle symbol - when they reach 1.25 MILLION points... there are a couple of folks out there now (who appear to be non-bikers) who have it now...

Some of you may already know this - but I just stumbled on to it today... JT has created a separate category for Motorcycles - still under Automotive, but click there and cruise down to the M's to find it. At least they have noticed that we do exist - now to continue working on the motorcycle symbol!!!

Hey, fellow bikers...
We are trying to drum up enough support to get (1) motorcycle icons as an option to car icons if you choose, and (2) a separate category for Motorcycles (instead of being tucked under Automotive wherever they happen to fit).
If you would like to help us try to get a motorcycle icon added to the mix, please go to the Suggest a Website Improvement category, then find the New Motorcycle Symbol topic and post a reply - thanks!

I have a question...Why would anybody buy a Ducati?? I Have a 2002 Suzuki SV650 naked black. nearly identical bike to the Duc Monster 620 except the SV has more power, better handling, 5x's more reliable, liquid cooled vs air and costs half as much. IMO to own a Duc you'd have to have more money than brains unless somebody can explain a few good points to the bikes????

Nice bikes, but a bit pricey. They use dry clutches, heard they are problem prone than wet clutches, is that true?

Yes, Ducati is a brand of Italian motorcycles. They seem to be most famous for their 999 series of superbikes, which win a lot of motorcycle races.

Ducati sounds like a fun & fancy name for a vehicle! Is it Italian?
