DOTs warn candidates against blocking highway rights-of-way

GasBuddy Blog -- It seems like many of the DOTs across the country all had the same idea at the same time -- they're seeing political placards for local and national candidates for political offices popping up with great frequency and want to make sure that they don't impede traffic safety.

New York, Wyoming, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Georgia, to name a few, are just some of the states whose Departments of Transportation have either received complaints or fielded inquiries from residents or businesses asking for signs to be removed that may be obstructions to motorists.

And the politicians may not be the worst of the bunch this time... Wyoming's DOT says that while many signs are posted by political supporters, they're also seeing many from...

We really don't have that much of a problem here. Most signs are in private property or businesses.

The Commissar of Public Safety has discerned that porch lights after dark are distracting passing motor traffic and there must be deactivated at dusk and reactivated at dawn.

my complaint with the DOT in my area of driving is the lack of grass maintainance thats going on, in areas where you need to merge the height of some of the grass is truly unbelievable which is an accident waiting to happen and a big one at that..

This is all well and good, but what are the limits? Do we stop at advertisements, political messages, swap meets, garage sales, missing puppies, or crosses where people have died from traffic accidents?

Signs littering the local roads and highway's, so much so it can be very hard to see every which way but loose. All kinds of signs: Campaign signs, For Sale '?' signs, For Rent '?' signs, I buy houses, cars, etc. signs, Open House signs, Garage or Yard sale signs, etc. Signs are to be on private land and not public. Then there are the roadside memorials. When will it all stop?
Excessive signs have to stop somewhere and the state DOT may be that entity. If they would only pick up their signs after the event was over!
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!
