Isaac changes course, sets sight on oil-rich Gulf

GasBuddy Blog -- The hurricane track for Isaac continued to move westward over the weekend, with the storm headed directly for the oil-rich Gulf of Mexico, and with it come possibly refinery shutdowns and rig outages. Motorists should prepare for temporary gasoline prices especially in the Gulf- Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, and other areas the storm may affect.

We're hearing of some refineries that will likely close their plants out of caution, and dozens of significant Gulf oil and natural gas rigs have already been evacuated. As of Monday morning, 25% of the daily production of oil capacity has been shut in the Gulf.

While the Gulf area may see the worst of the gas price spikes, the entire nation may be affected, with wholesale gasoline...

Isaac has brought tornadoes, high wind gusts, twisted trees, blowing debris and a storm surge causing flooding. Hate it for those West of here but hopefully the cities facing drought will get some relief. I have posted some photos TS Isaac "Calm before the storm". Take a look if you wish to.

As Isaac comes closer to landfall, companies are not going to want to endanger their drivers in order to deliver fuel into the projected areas. We'll deal with the impact on prices. Hope everyone that was able to evacuate got out. And everyone that had to stay - stays safe.

However, major price gouging here we go. If it hits with any force, I predict probably $4.25 gas before long in most parts of the US. Eventual fall-back might be to $4.00 as the new "low"!

This is called price gouging and is illegal, at least in the state of Florida. However, it is often hard to prove and when it is proven the stations usually just get a slap on the wrist in the form of a small fine that never seems to make it back to the people that actually were gouged by the high prices.

Possibly store the reserve in tankers that can be relocated to another area? Nope...let's just shutdown and jack the pump price to cover the loss...
