Here it is the holiday weekend and prices have gone down between 0.01 and 0.05 per gallon on the ten stations that I monitor. A pleasant surprise for the holiday weekend.

Now that the weekend has arrived, it's clear that prices in northeast Illinois are down. Down by up to 5c in my area from a week ago. Maybe they will go up again AFTER the holiday weekend.

I have been keeping my tank full over the past week. Never below three quarters of a tank. Usually I wait until it's about a quarter full or lower before I fill up.

With Gas Prices Ranging from 2.29 to 1.63 in the US some areas will go down and some will go up. Overall the average will rise by .04 to .06. standard Oil Company Practice for the Holidays

Although prices are significantly lower in other parts of Iowa, I must give Estherville station owners credit for not jacking-up prices (so far) for the holiday weekend...unlike stations in Spirit Lake...who seem to want to squeeze every penny they can out of folks there!!!

Must be an area phomena (sp?). Here in Prince William County (Northern Virginia area near D.C.), I have watched the prices drop all week and this morning the three stations next to an I-95 exit just dropped another $.02 to 1.77. Last Friday they were at 1.81.
Overall the average price last Friday was 1.81 in the area with the lowest price at 1.79. Today the average is 1.75 with the lowest price at 1.73.
Several stations have a tendency to change prices later in the day. I would not be surprised to see a few more drop their prices.
Good luck in your area!

Last Sunday, 8/29 I posted a message here stating that in Cincinnati gas prices ALWAYS increase prior to the holiday. I stated that prices generally increase between $0.10 to $0.25 per gallon. This entire week prices have have remained constant at brand stations at $1.71. This morning all stations have posted prices at $1.85 to $1.89 (at Mobil, Marathon, BP, Exxon) ... just in my burb. Other areas in the metro area are much higher. Welcome to the holiday.

The price of gas here in the New York region stabalized a month ago and have been dropping recently. Oil futures have dropped markedly in the last two weeks. WHile there is a clear disconnect between the two (caused by gouging by the oil companies, getting whatever the market will bear), they would have a very hard time raising prices again while oil prices are falling. As long as nothing major happens in the Middle East in the next week, prices should at least remain stable.

Prices for the Labor day weekend will go up by an average, initially of 15 to 20 cents per gallon, but will settle back by 5-8 cents after owners see that users/buyers avoid the pumps. Net increase - between 10-15 cent per gallon. Then prices will begin to fall on Wednesday by a cent or two per day. Amazing how the law of supply and demand is always cited as the driving factor, as prices spike 20 cent in an hour but take 10 days to retreat the same 20 cents. I believe thats what economists call an elastic upside and an inelastic downside; or put another way, the price of gasoline is being driven by factors that have nothing to do with either supply or demand....

Not sure. Normally, I would say yes, but the prices have been bouncing around so much because of the rapid changes in the price of oil that I never know what to expect.
