Gas prices may rise through April, experts say

Gainsville Sun -- The price of gasoline at the pump is rising rapidly and experts said Monday that the increase is expected to continue into April at least.

A variety of reasons - from snow storms in the northeast to economic growth in China - are being blamed for the rise. In addition, the ongoing switch to the summer blend fuel and refinery maintenance pushed oil and gas prices higher in the past few weeks.

Last year, gas prices peaked in April then headed on a downward trend through the summer months. This year is forecast to have a similar trend, but with lower gas prices overall.

“Gas prices are still forecast to peak in April, so it's likely motorists will see pump prices steadily increase during the next couple of months," said Jessica Brady, AAA spokeswoman, The Auto Club Group. "However, the nat

That's a long time, considering how sharply the prices have risen already this year! How bad will it get THIS time?!!!

There is always a variety of excuses, er, reasons. But no surprise, this happens every year. No news here.

They will rise way past April and beyond that until someone cuts the legs off the futures oil speculators.

Hey Doc, I've been paying for gas since 1979, so I remember the "good ol' days;" but then I've forgotten a lot too. Yeah, some years with huge price spikes, some with little to none. I remember the summer of '97 and 2000, the spring of '96 and '05, etc. I've come to understand the changing nature of the business and the volatility that has ensued, so I don't get my panties in a bunch over a 24¢ increase. That is the long view: higher some months, lower others.

DoctorV -
You do not remember thE days before 2005 when WE paid just a few cents more and not dollars more for winter to summer blends?

Come on we are not saving anything, it's all over priced.
You need a longer reality.

Oh goood, Oh goody.
I just hate paying less than $3 and I'd love for gas to get above $4 here!

And I'd also like to go out to my money tree and puck off a few million while I'm at it!

Not a word about inflation, which is affecting everything. Just quit printing money and prices will begin to stabilize.

I know what you're saying slvrdo, but I look at the overall average for the year. This is the time of year we are getting a "discount"; in the summer we'll pay a premium. Last year my average fuel cost was $3.86/gal. For the past few months, gas near me has been averaging $3.49, so I'm in the discount period.

"the ongoing switch to the summer blend fuel and refinery maintenance pushed oil and gas prices higher in the past few weeks."

This is the most predictable thing in history. It happens on a yearly basis; you'd think we could come up with a plan to make up for the lost capacity when this happens so prices don't have to jump like they do.

Last year on this date oil was $100/barrel yet gas was 13 cents/gallon cheaper. Does that make sense?

So with the oil being $2/barrel more gas should even be MORE than the 13 cents/gallon cheaper. WHY are they allowed to get away with this?

Gas prices going up is like a speeding train traveling down the tracks. It is definitely hard to stop once those wheels are in motion!!!
