Best $200.000 that ive seen spent in ages.Makeing fuel out of one of the worst type of garbage thats overwelming this planet.Perfect ! Every major plastic manufacture should be forced to use one.And only be allowed to produce the same amount of plastic that they are able to recycle in this way.Why is this story not all over the front pages of the news?Maybe because it can be purchased for under a GAZZILION dollars.Or maybe someone dosent like the idea that this fuel might be an small allternative to other over priced fuels

MAC48,
Usually when a GByte wants to learn more about a topic they will do their own google search. For whatever reason, you decided to just leave a negative comment? Your loss, because the Yukon Research Centre at Yukon College is doing some very interesting and progressive things .... for those with inquiring minds ;0}
FROM THE ARTICLE:
""I do believe it can pay for itself, but I also believe it takes care of a larger problem, which is the waste plastics, quite frankly, are getting thrown in the garbage. Now if we can close the loop on that, I think that's every recyclers' goal," said Pat McInroy, of P&M Recycling.
The machine will be here for the next two years. Over that period it will be monitored and tests done on the crude oil. McInroy will use the oil to heat his plant. He says it should work in any furnace that has an inside tank. After the test period the project will be reviewed to see if a bigger machine is warranted."

As usual this article presents absolutely no facts about whether this process is economically justifiable which means that the installation at the university in Whitehouse is probably a small scale "test and development" effort. Venture capitalist would be fighting tooth and nail to acquire the rights to this process if they thought it could be a good bet one would think.

10 kilograms = About 22 pounds or a lot of milk bottles. 10 liters = 2.6 gals or about $12.

No info in the article about the economics of conversion. Where do they get the stuff they add to it? Is the latter just wind and solar? I think not!

There is so much plastic in landfills, IF the machine can do it cheaply and economically there could be an oil landfill mine. Reverse the process of making plastic and go back to the source. The machine comes from Japan and its inventor is in Whitehorse to over see the installation. Whitehorse is Not that big, much larger cities can use this process instead! Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!

May work, if and only if the cost of energy used in the process costs less than the price received from the finished product. That's not mentioned in the article.

No surprise... oil is a base material for plastic. The bigger surprise to me is the comment that its the first in North America. Apparently the inventor has not pitched it much to this part of the world yet.

Makes sense to process non-recyclable plastic. Remove excess waste from landfills and reduce reliance on foreign oil.

Use oil to make plastic ~~~> use plastic to make oil ~~~~> refine oil to make gasoline ~~~~> use gasoline to power your vehicle.
~~~~> = energy loses
Seems something like ethanol, use a lot of energy to get a little.
If we already recycle plastics back into more plastics (just like other metals), then why do we need a machine to recycle plastics all the way back tot he original oil base?
Kind of makes sense when you realize that certain plastics have oil as a component material. This machine looks like it reverses that process.
